WHAT IS ETHICAL ENGINEERING?

Thomas Edison observed in 1922:

"There will one day spring from the brain of science a machine or force so fearful in its potentialities, so absolutely terrifying, that even man, the fighter, who will dare torture and death in order to inflict torture and death, will be appalled, and so abandon war forever."

In the United States, this prediction has not yet arrived, nor does it appear geopolitically imminent. This course examines the ETHICS of ENGINEERING TECHNOLOGIES of war in the 21st Century. It assesses philosophical dilemmas for engineering warfare and inquires: "What is the ETHICAL duty of engineers to innovate or engineer Technologies of Peace?"
